AMMAN — Fun, creativity, music, sports and supporting human causes are at the heart of a “one of its kind” race scheduled to take place on Friday in Amman, the event organiser said.

“Causes in Colours Race” is a charity race that aims to support autism, breast cancer and climate change through raising awareness and allocating 20 per cent of the event’s proceeds to support research centres specialised in these issues, according to the organiser.

Runners will enjoy a fun time with their friends and families in a race where winning will not be counted by speed but by creativity, CEO of Runners Across Jordan Amer Omari, the organiser of the event, told The Jordan Times.

The participants will be asked to record a short and creative video while running, in which they will support one of the causes, then post it on the event’s Facebook page. A committee will choose the winners after the event.

“It is not about being fast or slow, but it is about supporting a cause while having fun,” Omari noted, adding that runners can participate in the three, five or ten kilometre-long races

The “fun” part is when runners will be showered with coloured powders, symbolising the colours of the Jordanian flag at various stations along the run which each represent one of the humanitarian aims promoted by the race, according to Omari.

“Causes in Colours Race” is a modified version of the international race “The Colour Run” which is organised by 75 countries around the world.

This event, which has no winners or prizes, also see runners being showered with coloured powder, made of food-grade corn starch at several stations along the run.

“We want to launch this event in Jordan, and expand it internationally to become an annual international race,” Omari added.

The organiser is expecting at least 2,000 people to take part in the event, in which people can participate individually or in teams. Youth and kids above 4 years old will also be able to participate in the race.

The event, scheduled on Friday at Bisharat Golf Club,  will be followed by a musical night during which all participants will be rewarded.
